NEXIUM tablets are manufactured by Merck & Company and are available in a bendroflurane (Fluide) base.
Nexium® tablets are indicated for acid reflux by non-invasive, non-steroidal, and radioiodine-dependent tests (indicated in a specific manner), with a specific test for reflux symptoms (indicated by a non-ydia test).

Nexium / Esomeprazole is a type of proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that helps reduce stomach acid production in individuals with gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is used when stomach acid is not producing enough to digest the acid in food or to prevent ulcers.
Nexium:
The primary therapeutic range for Nexium is the 600-1000mg oral range.
Acid-suppressing medications like esomeprazole are used for the short term treatment of infection and for up to 36 hours after treatment has stopped, for severe GI events, including proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like Nexium or Esomeprazole, to prevent nausea and gastrointestinal-like symptoms.
Nexium should only be used as short-term relief from infection as caused to produce significant weight loss, for severe infections within the first few days of treatment or for up to 5 days to promote a return to a more normal size, temperature-sensitive, pain-relieving environment.
For Esomeprazole, has an usual therapeutic dose of 120mg once daily.
Acid reductase inhibitors (ARIs) (e.g. gliclazide, esomeprazole) are used for the long-term treatment of gastrointestinal events (infections).
ARIs usually take 30 to 60 minutes to start working, whereas generic versions are available from a few years earlier. While this means that ARIs can take up to 36 hours to be fully workable, an ARI would not be treated for more than 4 days unless it is taken with a meal.
ARIs are usually taken twice daily (before, during, or up to 1 hour after food) at a dose of 1-2 grams every day for 12 days.
Generic versions of ARIs are available starting from 1-2 weeks after they are taken.

Nexium usually begins to take effect on the first working day, after a meal.

To be effective, the dose of Nexium must be at least 4 days past the planned dose.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
Be sure to tell your doctor about any, all, part of your health history,
such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, etc.
Nexium should not be used by people who are allergic to it or have any allergy to, or have had an to esomeprazole.
Be sure to tell your doctor if you have any liver problems, if you have recently had a stroke, if you have high or low blood pressure, or if you have or have ever had congestive heart failure.
The cost of Nexium (esomeprazole) for a patient is $14.65. A doctor may charge for the medication for an additional $1.00. The cost for the same patient ranges from $13.80 to $21.80. A doctor may also charge for the same amount for a 30 day supply of the medication. The total cost includes the necessary time spent for the patient to complete the full course of treatment, medical consultation and billing, and shipping of the medication. If a patient has a prescription for a medication not listed above, a doctor will issue a prescription for that medication. A doctor will issue a prescription for Nexium (esomeprazole) at the lowest cost and in a time period that is not covered by insurance. The prescription will not be filled until the patient is over the age of 65 years of age. The drug will not be shipped to a nursing home, or stored at a controlled substance address unless a facility is specified in the prescription that the patient must obtain a prior authorization to keep at home. Patients who are under the age of 65 years of age who are prescribed Nexium (esomeprazole) will require prior authorization from their doctor for the drug for an additional $1.00. Patients who are over the age of 65 years of age who are prescribed Nexium (esomeprazole) will require prior authorization from their doctor for the drug for an additional $1.00.
